Innovation Coach
Kelsey is a teacher and Coach at DeKalb Central Schools. This past year Kelsey stepped into a new position at DeKalb Central Schools as an Innovation Coach where she organized professional development revolving around employability skills and computer science, oversaw computer science curriculum offered at the K-12 level, worked alongside teachers in computer science and STEM integration into the classroom, and applied for numerous grants to further the STEM initiative at DeKalb Central Schools. The previous six years Kelsey spent teaching science and health at DeKalb High School. The biology course Kelsey taught was taught using New Tech Network's project based learning approach. During the past seven years, Kelsey has become a certified New Tech Network PBL Teacher and Train the Trainer, participated in IU - Bloomington's Biology Summer Institute, served as a member of Trine University's Franks School of Education Stakeholder Committee, completed training with Region 8 revolving around computer science and Micro:bits, and completed training with Nextech regarding teaching computer science in Indiana. Kelsey believes in providing kids opportunities to engage and collaborate in authentic work around real world problems, and that content we teach kids exists to provide students with a focus when practicing and growing essential skills.
